President Barack Obama will be speaking on the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment today from the US Capitol Building.

Obama will be accompanied by members of Congress, the Senate and the Congressional Black Caucus.

Of course, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States. The Amendment was proposed on January 31, 1865 and passed on December 6, 1865 once Andrew Johnson had taken over Abraham Lincoln’s role as president after Lincoln’s assassination.
