Smash is an officer with the Houston Police Mounted Patrol Division and he’s deaf. Leslie Wills with the Houston Mounted Patrol says he’s great at his job.

“He is spectacular,” Wills said. “He definitely doesn’t let his special need put up any barriers for him.”

His friends don’t either. Katherine is the leader of “The Smash Girls.” She met him at an event and it was love at first sight. She enlisted her friends to raise money for Smash’s care and feeding and the girls have been regular visitors ever since and help with all the horses.

Her mother, Kim Richards, says the experience has been great for everyone.

“When they weren’t raising money they were washing the horses, and taking care of the horses and hugging on the horses so it’s been a truly a wonderful project for both the mounted the parents and the girls,” Richards said.

Katherine says she loves visiting Smash on Sunday when she gives him a trip to the horse spa.

“It’s a bath for horses,” Richards said. “And I clean up after him, clean him up, get him already. Give him some love. Give him some kisses. Give him some treats.”

The Smash Girls are trying to get 500 likes on Smash’s page for his birthday this week. If you want to help, visit the Smash Facebook page here.
