The iPod is the most important development in music over the past ten years. That’s according to those taking part in a new Grammy.com poll. Nearly 60-percent of those answering the online question “What was the decade’s most noteworthy music development?” believe it’s the iPod, which Apple first introduced in October 2001. Coming in a distant second is YouTube. The video sharing website captured 27-percent of the vote, and is the only other option picked by more than ten-percent of the respondents. Seven-percent believe the honor should go to the “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band” video game series, while six-percent think online social networks such as MySpace should get the nod. Only one-percent see the closing of the Tower Records and Musicland chains as the most significant development in music in this first decade of the 21st century
