While Hurricane Isaac eyes our Gulf Coast neighbors to the east, it’s a serious reminder for folks in our area to make sure you have an emergency plan in place.

Cameron Valentine is with the Houston Area Red Cross and offers the following: “Make sure you have that go kit with extra medication, your professional documents, some extra cash as we know the power sometimes goes out and ATM’s may not be available.

That you have a plan for your family members and pets. Make sure you have a way to charge your cell phone to keep in touch with your family and friends to let them know you’re going to be okay,” Valentine states.

And if you need to find a Red Cross shelter, Valentine says now there’s an app for that.

“People can go to the i Phone store, or the android or Google store for android and download the American Red Cross app,” Valentine adds. You can also call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to www.redcross.org . Hurricane season ends November 30th.
