President Barack Obama on Monday night said both sides of politics have a responsibility to solve the nation’s current debt situation, after talks reached a stalemate.

In a speech to the nation from the White House he called for a “balanced” approach where burden for reducing deficits “is fairly shared.”

His remarks followed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) taking turns Monday criticizing each other’s plans to reduce the nation’s deficit.
