The Road to Glory: Finishers Club

Last week I asked you to examine whether you were a part of the Starters or Finishers Club. The goal of that article was to get you to stop club hopping to success.  This week’s focus is about the road to glory towards the finish line.  We often don’t see the blood sweat and tears that happen before people “make it”. very often we focus on the achievement (the new house, job assignment, money, contract etc) versus all the details that happen before someone has reached their goal. We tend to romanticize their experience on the journey to success, wealth and happiness instead of believing that their experience included sacrifice, perseverance, set backs, tragedies, deaths.

There is lot that happens on the journey to success.  Today I want to give you some quick tips to encourage you to keep going until you reach your goal. I am often amaze that many of us have similar goals such as financial stability, health, a home, good education and a good job. While we might have similar goals the path to the finish line will look different.

When I first started out in the financial industry I had to prove myself to stay in the business. I was determine to make it because I knew that I was suppose to help people become better stewards over their finances. I used to make 250 calls a day to get 50 contacts to make 5 appoints that resulted in 1 sell. This was a daunting tasking and I had a few bumps along the way. I had to keep trying not matter what, be discipline, stay focus, determined to succeed and I had a great support system.

Below I have provided a few tips to help you achieve your goals.

Road Map for the Finishers Club.

Fight Club (Don’t Give In or Give Out): Nothing in life is easy, you are going to have to fight for it. If you get knocked down just get back up again and keep swinging. Stay focus on your target no matter what position you are in. Remember you were not made to break. Keep Trying.

Wax On, Wax Off: (Discipline or Discipleship): We often think of discipline as punishment however discipline is also the practice of training people to obey rules. Training is a good thing. Take a course, or go to s seminar. Make sure you are always on “A” game updated on the latest trends and technology.

Objects in This Mirror Appear Closer Than You Think (Optical Illusions): Life is full of obstacle illusions. (quote by Grant Frazer) An optical illusion is visually perceived image that is deceptive and misleading. When you are on this journey you are going to face obstacles, challenges and hurdles that are going to appear huge in your mind remember it is an illusion because you have never blazed this trail before. Tell yourself that “you can do it” and “just do it” until you get over it, go under it and go through it and reach the other side.

May I Have Your Attention (Focus): There are so much noise competing for your attention that will try to distract you from your course. Ask yourself is this getting me closer to my dreams or taking me further away from it. Stay focus. It is important that you eliminate everyone and anybody that is going to try to discourage you. Also. you might have to make some sacrifices and go to bed early or stay at work late. You know what sacrifices that you will have you make. Remember it is temporary.

Mind Blowing Decisions (Prepare Your Mind): You have to make up your mind and determine that you are going to make it.  One of my favorite scriptures I mediated while I was building my business is Luke 5:5. I had determined that I was going to do what ever it took to be successful and exceed everyone’s expectations. Sometimes determination will cause you to take drastic steps towards your goal. I wanted to be without excuse and do what ever it took to be successful in the field.

Life Support (Support System): There are parts of this journey that you are going to just have to tough it out alone for one reason or another. However, you don’t have to make the entire journey by yourself. My mom was my biggest cheerleader when I was having a bad day I knew I could call her and she would say something that would encourage me.  Keep a close friend or family near by just to cheer you up on the journey. I promise you will need them.

The Challenge:

What can you learn from people’s private struggles on their journey to success? For one  you learn that the road is not going to be easy it is going to be tough and you are going to have to fight for it.

It is my desire that you are inspired to be good steward over these three areas of your life: Time, Talent, Treasure. Time, you must learn to manage your time; talent you have skills and gifts and lastly treasure, your finances need to managed appropriately. All of these areas work together, when they are managed properly you will be able to become A BETTER YOU!

By the way the picture at the top is what I put above my desk along with the Scripture Luke 5:5.
