The Rance Allen Group - Black Music Month

Source: Creative Services / CS

The Rance Allen Group is known for their unique incorporation of rock and soul into traditional black gospel music and is one of the most explosive groups to emerge from the legendary Stax Records label in the 1970s.

However, the group was formed by vocalist, guitarist, pianist, and songwriter Rance Allen with his brothers Tom (drums), Steve (bass guitar). From the moment they stepped on the scene, they helped to expand the horizons of gospel music and have worked with artists like Amy Grant, Andrae Crouch, and The Winans.

Four decades later, they are still being recognized for their groundbreaking work in bridging R&B and gospel. At the 2009 Stellar Awards, they received a the Bobby Jones Legend Award and were honored in a BMI Trailblazers of Gospel ceremony in 2008.

Below are our Top 5 Favorite Rance Allen Group songs.
