A woman was hit and killed early Friday morning while she tried to walk across four lanes of the Katy Freeway. According to investigators, the woman was struck by a vehicle around 2:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Barker Cypress.

Additional reports indicate that the woman stepped directly out into the freeway with oncoming traffic. The driver of the vehicle that hit the woman stopped and called 911, but the victim was already deceased at the scene of the accident. The woman did not have identification on her, further delaying the identification process. All lanes were shut down until 4:40 a.m. Friday while crews investigated the accident. During last check, the driver who hit the woman is not likely to be charged because that motorist stopped and tried to offer assistance.
