Welcome to your Monday morning weather update, in which I’ll attempt to sum up the immediate past, present and future of weather on the bayou. This week will see mostly seasonal temperatures with a couple chances of rainfall. The bigger question is how cold it will get next week and beyond.

PAST

The highlight of last week came on Wednesday, when the city of Houston got a good gully washer, with southeastern parts of the county receiving more than three inches of rain (see estimated totals).

Given our emerging drought, the natural question is how much the rains helped wash out the dry conditions.

The following image, from the U.S. Drought Monitor, shows drought conditions for Texas as of last Tuesday, Dec. 28, a day before the heavy rains.
