Students from Scroggins Elementary School had a chance to launch model rockets and experiment with “space goo” at Texas Southern University’s science center this morning.

Through Kids Day Space Science, students explore the solar system in their after-school programs through an established, eight-to-10 week curriculum focused on space science endeavors involving math, science and technology.

“Experiences like these give at-risk kids exposure to future opportunities beyond the schoolyard,” said Lisa Caruthers, CASE director. “In connecting kids to the world of work, partnerships are formed with local universities, nonprofits and corporations.”

Kids Day Space Science is a collaboration among CASE, which is a division of HCDE, Lockheed Martin, the Education Foundation of Harris County and TSU.
