HOUSTON (KTRK) — Members of Houston’s Haitian community are banding together to help loved ones back home.

But they can’t do it alone. They will set up a makeshift collect location in southwest Houston to gather relief supplies to help those in need.

The Haitian Multi-Cultural Association headquarters in southwest Houston became a gathering spot for worried Houstonians, with family or friends waiting to hear from loved ones in Haiti.

Although they’re far away, they’re determined to do what they can and will begin collecting donations of blankets, clothing and emergency items this morning.

“We just don’t know what’s going on with Haiti. We feel like the country we used to know is like divided. Something is happening. We don’t know what is going to happen at the end,” said local Haitian Marie Batiste. “We just want the city of Houston to really pray for us.”

The Haitian Multi-Cultural Association is accepting donations. You can drop off supplies at 9819 Bissonnet from 7am to 7pm.
