Child Dies After Crash Involving HCSO Vehicle In NW Houston

(Houston, TX)  —  The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a child early Sunday morning in northwest Houston.  The crash happened around 12:40 a.m. on T.C. Jester Boulevard at Tomlinson Trail Drive, when a pickup truck turned left in front of a marked sheriff’s office vehicle.  A child under 12 wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the pickup.  The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.  The driver reportedly showed signs of intoxication and could be charged with intoxication manslaughter if tests confirm he was impaired.

La Marque Mayor Arrested In Brazoria County For Indecent Exposure

(La Marque, TX)  —  The mayor of La Marque is out on bond following his arrest for indecent exposure.  Angleton police took Mayor Keith Bell into custody at a business park on Friday.  Bell bonded out on Saturday afternoon under court-ordered conditions that he not contact the victim, not go near her home, and stay away from the school she attends.  Bell has been the mayor of La Marque since 2021.  He will remain in office unless he resigns or is removed in a process allowed by the La Marque City Charter.

Montgomery County Woman Dies Of West Nile Virus

(Conroe, TX)  —  Health officials are confirming Montgomery County’s first death from West Nile virus in 2026.  The Montgomery County Public Health Department says the patient was a woman in her 90s who was diagnosed with West Nile virus neuroinvasive disease.  Her name wasn’t released.  The virus is spread mostly through the bites of infected mosquitoes.  Health officials say mosquito season is generally from May through the end of October. 

Judge Denies Karmelo Anthony New Trial

(McKinney, TX)  —  Convicted murderer Karmelo Anthony won’t be getting a new trial.  Retired Kaufman County District Judge Michael Chitty denied the motion for a retrial.  The motion claimed that a “gentleman’s agreement” between trial attorneys hurt Anthony’s ability to testify.  Anthony is serving a 35-year sentence for fatally stabbing fellow student Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco last year.  His defense team says they plan to appeal Judge Chitty’s ruling. 

Houston Public Library Celebrates 100th Anniversary Of Julia Ideson Building

(Houston, TX)  —  The Houston Public Library is celebrating the 100th anniversary of a building that was its former main home.  The Spanish Renaissance Revival landmark opened in October 1926.  In 1951, City Council named it the Julia Ideson Building in honor of Houston’s first professional librarian, who served the city in that capacity for 42 years.  A new Central Library opened next door in 1976, and the older building became an archive.  The Julia Ideson Building is recognized as a historic landmark by the city, the state, and the nation.

Astros Prepare For Road Series Against Yankees

(Houston, TX)  —  The Houston Astros have the night off as they prepare for a three-game road series against the New York Yankees.  The Astros are trying to get back into the win column after losing two of a three-game home series against the Athletics, including Sunday’s 7-6 loss.  First pitch at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday evening is at 6:05 p.m. Houston time.
