(Cleveland, OH) — Autumn allergy season is right around the corner and a health expert is giving advice on how to prepare. Dr. Sandra Hong, an allergist at the Cleveland Clinic, recommends that folks on allergy medications take them before symptoms start and allergy season hits. For children heading off to school, Dr. Hong recommends showering and changing clothes before bedtime. She says antihistamines should be taken as needed throughout the season and recommends changing the furnace filter before turning the heat on for the first time.

CDC Is Tracking Another Candida Outbreak Seen In 23 States

(Atlanta, GA) — The CDC is tracking another outbreak. Twenty-three states are reporting a drug-resistant fungal infection. It’s called Candida auris and is a type of yeast that causes bloodstream, wound, and ear infections. Symptoms include chills, extreme fatigue, fever, low blood pressure, low body temperature and rapid heart rate. The CDC says more than 700 cases have turned up in Texas so far this year followed by Michigan with more than five-hundred cases.

Jalapenos From San Diego Linked To Salmonella

Jalapenos from San Diego, California-based distributor Coast Citrus Distributors have been linked to a potential salmonella outbreak at Chipotle and Qdoba [[ Q dough buh ]]] restaurants. The jalapenos were sourced from Sinaloa, Mexico. Thirty-six people across the country have been hospitalized since the outbreak began last month.

Universal Studios Hollywood Issues Measles Exposure Warning

(Los Angeles, CA) — Universal studios Hollywood is issuing a measles exposure warning. An infected person was at the park on Sunday, July 26th between 10 am and 9 pm. Public health officials say people who were there during that time frame should check on their measles vaccination status and contact their healthcare provider if they’re unvaccinated, immunocompromised, pregnant or have an infant. People are also urged to call doctor and stay home is measles symptoms develop, such as runny nose, cough, fever, rash, and red and watery eyes. Confirmed measles infections in California have more than doubled compared to last year.

Study Suggests Neural Noise Keeps Some Autistic Children From Communicating

Researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine believe neural noise keeps some autistic children from communicating effectively. Researchers from UVA and other institutions recently collaborated on a study published in the journal Scientific Reports. The study focused on brain patterns in different children as they listened to words. They found that autistic children had subtle differences in brain patterns that act like static, causing interference that makes communication more difficult. Researchers hope the results can lead to better treatments for children on the autism spectrum.
