Extra Warnings For Summer Campers
(Kerrville, TX) — Kerr County is installing its first river flood warning sirens as part of a new alert system in what is known as “Flash Flood Alley.” County Commissioner Tom Jones says that when the project is finished, there will be eight total sirens. They’re all near summer camps along the Guadalupe River. And they are expected to be operational by this summer, with a second phase planned for next year.
Cannabis Dispensary Employee Shoots Teen Several Times In NW Houston
(Houston, TX) — Police are investigating a shooting that wounded a teenager outside a northwest Houston cannabis dispensary on Monday night. Officers responded to the shooting at the Greenhouse Dispensary on Long Point Road near Bingle. Investigators say the teen entered the store and reportedly stole merchandise before the employee shot him several times as he left the business. The teen was hospitalized in unknown condition. No word yet as to whether charges will be filed. Investigators are looking at surveillance video.
Woman Found Dead Inside North Harris County Apartment
(Houston, TX) — The death of a woman in an apartment in north Harris County is being investigated as a homicide. The woman’s family contacted apartment management on Monday after not being able to reach her for several days. Management entered the apartment and found the woman’s body. Deputies responded around 5:30 p.m. to the complex on Cypress Station Drive near FM 1960. The woman’s body showed signs of severe trauma, but there had been no forced entry into the apartment. An autopsy is planned.
Two Arrested After Possible Pipe Bomb Found Near Livingston Home
(Livingston, TX) — Two people are in custody after Livingston police say a possible pipe bomb was found near a home on Monday. Officers investigated a report of the bomb on Banks Drive, where they evacuated nearby homes and established a perimeter. The Montgomery County Bomb Squad and the ATF assisted at the scene, where technicians disabled the device. A search of a nearby home turned up more explosive components. Officers arrested the residents of the home, Brian Humphreys and Shaney Humphreys, for having components of explosives.
SpaceX Prepares For Test Flight Of Biggest Rocket Ever
(Starbase, TX) — The test flight of SpaceX’s most powerful rocket to date is coming up next week. The Starship V3 is the tallest rocket ever assembled, and is set to make its first test flight on May 19th after a successful launch rehearsal on Tuesday in south Texas. SpaceX says it’s the world’s most powerful reusable rocket. It could be key to NASA’s plan to return astronauts to the moon and create a permanent moon base, following the success of the recent Artemis Two lunar mission.
Firm Plans To Install ‘Architectural Trees’ Downtown To Shade World Cup Fans
(Houston, TX) — A Houston design and manufacturing firm plans to create a few shady spots during the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. Rootlab plans to place 16 sets of “architectural trees” along Texas Avenue between downtown and the FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown. The tree trunks will be stainless-steel pipes, with the tops shaped like large leaves. The trees will provide shade by day and will light up at night to guide sports fans down Texas Avenue. Rootlab hopes to install the trees over the next two weeks.
