RICHMOND, VA/TBR/ – It’s been months in the making, but on Sunday, July 19th, 2015, the Gospel Music Workshop of America added a new chapter to its organization. Under the leadership of Cedric Copeland, 26, the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Goochland Virginia and Vicinity Chapter was officially sworned into their working roles as Chapter Representatives and Chapter Leaders.

Their story begins back in January 2015, during the celebration of Cedric Copeland’s 26th birthday dinner. During that time, Cedric polled the idea of starting a Goochland Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. However it was actually two years earlier when God placed this mandate in Cedric’s heart, but now the timing was right and Cedric was ready to move forward. So he did and with the support and blessing of those in the Goochland area.

Next he called a meeting on January 18th, 2015. Invited to the meeting were Rev. Michele Armstrong, Minister Kathy Cheatham, Thomasena Cook, Janine Allen-Jordan and Delores Armstrong. Three weeks following the meeting, Cedric and Rev. Armstrong reached out to the state representative Dr. Sylvester Starkes about the process of establishing a chapter in Goochland, VA. One an invitation was sent out to the Goochland and surrounding community more than 100 responded with an interest to join.

Weeks later, the team went to Norfolk, VA to support their chairman, Bishop Albert Jamison, as he served as the guest preacher at a church in Norfolk, VA. It was there Bishop Jamison encouraged the team to continue to pray and keep moving forward with the guidance of the National Chapter Representative Division, as he also supported the need to create a new chapter in Virginia.

On February 25, 2015, the Goochland Virginia and Vicinity Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, received their letter of approval from the national Board of the Chapter Representatives Division, signed by Lavoyce Huggins. To that end, Cedric Copeland was appointed the new Chapter Representative of the Goochland, VA and Vicinity Chapter. Cedric then appointed Rev. Michele Armstrong and Delores Armstrong as his Assistant Chapter Representatives, Thomasena Nelson-Cook, Secretary, Minister Kathy Cheatham as Music Director and Janine O. Allen-Jordan, Financial Secretary.

In March 2015 Cedric and Rev. Armstrong attended their first 2015 National Board meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada as Chapter Representative and Assistant Chapter Representative for Goochland, VA and Vicinity Chapter.

On April 6, 2015, the singers and musicians met for the first time at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Gum Springs, VA where they held their first rehearsal. Over 60 people came out to participate.

However it was on Sunday, July 19, 2015 when this first chapter came to a close as the Gospel Music Workshop of American, Goochland Virginia and Vicinity Chapter held its Consecration Service at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 994 Three Chopt Road, Manakin-Sabot, VA

Participating guests included Rev. Emmanuel Harris and Rev. Reginald Cleveland. Dr. Diane Mosby was the guest speaker, Bishop Anita O’Brien, Vice Chair of the GMWA National Evangelistic Board gave the Charge and Litany and Bishop Darryl Husband gave an anointed Consecration Prayer.

Serving as the Worship Leader was Sheilah Belle, The Belle.

While this has truly been an amazing journey to birth this first chapter we already know, the best is yet to come!

May we keep them all uplifted before the Lord in prayer!

Congratulations!
