The showcase features works of art by the comedian’s children and video commentary from friends, but doesn’t display any work from the comedian himself. Since the unsealing of a 2005 deposition revealed Cosby confessed to drugging women with Quaaludes, the endless sexual assault accusations against him have been revisited in court and hotly debated in the media. After the comedian’s recent donation of over $700,000 to the museum, coordinators plan to install a sign with a disclaimer about Cosby’s lawsuits.
The website on the showcase currently reads:
“The National Museum of African Art is aware of the recent revelations about Bill Cosby’s behaviour. The museum in no way condones this behaviour. Our current ‘Conversations’ exhibition, which includes works of African art from our permanent collection and African American art from the collection of Camille and Bill Cosby, is fundamentally about the artworks and the artists who created them, not the owners of the collections.”
Meanwhile, a former actor from The Cosby Show has slammed the 78-year-old in a now-viral post.
Joseph C. Phillips, who played Denise Huxtable’s (Lisa Bonet) husband in season 7 of the hit show, penned a blog titled “Of Course Bill Cosby Is Guilty!” about how another actress opened up to him about falling victim to Cosby’s advances.
Phillips says the comedian only went after “light-skinned” women with “good hair” on the show’s set. One woman in particular allegedly told him about an encounter she had.
BuzzFeed reports the story:
“We spent the next two hours sitting on a bench talking. Through tears, she told me her story. She cursed him for violating both her trust and her body. She cursed herself for not being smarter, and for degrading herself in pursuit of success. I listened patiently. As she began to run out of steam, she turned to me. “Do you believe me?”
“Yes.” I said. “I believe you.”
“Why?” she asked.
“Because I don’t believe that you are crazy and only a crazy person would sit with me all this time and share a fantasy.”
Phillips also maintained that Cosby’s wife Camille was aware of his affairs, but ignored them.
The actor has been ridiculed for the blog post, with many questioning his agenda.
To date, over 40 women have accused Cosby of sexual assault.
