KATY, TX (Covering Katy) – An SUV with five kids in it was stolen around 6 p.m. Wednesday from a Jack-In-The-Box on West Bellfort in Houston.

“Every parent’s worst nightmare came true tonight,” said investigator Mike Miller with the Houston Police Department.

Three boys and two girls, ages 3 to 11, were kidnapped.

“A daycare worker was exiting from her vehicle to the Jack-In-The-Box. I don’t exactly know the reason she was going in but she left the kids unattended,” Miller said.

The children appeared to still be in their school uniforms when they were put into an ambulance for evaluation shortly after being found at the corner of Cinco Ranch Boulevard and South Mason Road in Katy’s Cinco Ranch subdivision around 9:30 p.m.

“Fortunately, the vehicle was equipped with GPS sensors as well as cell phones so as soon as the Houston Police Department received information that the incident had occurred we started tracking cell phones and the GPS sensors,” Miller said.

The man who allegedly stole the car was arrested after being caught.

The kids were checked out on the scene and are OK.

Miller said it is possible the daycare worker could be charged, but that will be up to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
