Houston Mayor Annise Parker is attending the C-40 Conference in South Africa, where mayors from the world’s largest cities come together to address climate-related issues. But as Parker explains in an interview with CNBC Africa, she’s also there to promote business in Houston — and not just oil and gas.

“Oil and gas is our bread and butter, we are the world capital for oil and gas but the City of Houston is also a major port city, a city of medicine and NASA and aerospace,” Parker said.
“Space is becoming increasingly commercialized, particularly the U.S. Space Program. We believe there are companies that want to be part of space exploration, they need to be in Houston to do that.”
Aside from promoting Houston, the mayor says she will be doing a lot of listening and learning during her week in South Africa.
