(HOUSTON, TX)– In light of the tragic events at the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, organizers of this weekend’s Chevron Houston Marathon have added some new security precautions. Runners must have a valid government-issued photo id to pick up packets, all bags and items entering the marathon venues and events are subject to search and there will be checkpoints to enter the finish line viewing areas.

Wade Morehead, executive director of the Houston Marathon committee says the measures won’t overshadow the event.

“The security and the measures taking place to secure our event are probably ones that you don’t see that keep us safe.”

Morehead says they are working with experts in providing security at large- scale high- profile events and he’s confident their plan will provide a safe, fun day for everyone.
