At the One Love Gospel Getaway Pastor Charles Jenkins sat with correspondent Melanie and discussed the success of his hit single Awesome, the remix and his new album “Any Given Sunday”.

He also shares how he feels the church has not supported gospel artists like himself being able to minister in entertainment being “in the world, but not of the world”.

I think the church has done a bad job of cultivating artists who can be fully in their faith and fully in culture of the world at the same time….They have not taught people how to be in entertainment without being derogatory and totally dishonorable. As I hear outside of gospel music, 80% of it in urban music is sexually explicit.

So I think it’s important to create great music that delivers principle, inspires and uplifts…Jesus’ name is not all through the Bible but ideas, principles and perspectives that represent the fullness of His truth – I think that can be done. God has challenged me to make music for the church and also make music for the world.

All of this that we’re complaining about, Bishop T.D. Jakes said when it came to the movie industry “If you don’t like what’s going on, get in the kitchen and cook something else.” We need to communicate what God thinks about love.
