People across Houston are invited to take part in the Arts, Wellness and Environment Celebration (AWE Celebration) on Saturday, April 20th from 10:00am to 4pm. The family friendly event will kick-off a day of community activities and entertainment starting with the grand re-opening of the Park at Palm Center and its new community garden. The park is located at 5500 Griggs Rd., Houston, TX 77021. After the opening ceremony, theme related activities like bike tours, health & wellness screenings and arts and crafts will spread across two additional parks; MacGregor Park, located at 5225 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX 77021 and George T. Nelson Park, located at 3820 Yellowstone Street, Houston, TX 77021. Free shuttle service between all parks will be provided to guests.

This event is hosted by OST/South Union Great Opportunity (GO) Neighborhood, its steering committee; Southeast Houston Transformation Alliance (SEHTA) and their community partners. “The goal of the AWE Celebration is to engage residents in the revitalization of the southeast neighborhoods,” says Gwendolyn Fredrick, coordinator at GO Neighborhoods. “This event gives people a chance to experience the parks and recreational amenities near their homes.”

Attendees will find a wide range of activities at all three parks.

Under the leadership of Neighborhood Recovery Community Development Corporation, OST/South Union is thrilled to be designated as a GO Neighborhood by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). GO Neighborhoods is a holistic neighborhood revitalization initiative that addresses the many aspects of developing a sustainable community—a good place to live, work and raise a family.
