State Senator Mario Gallegos’ body will lie in state in the senate chamber Today and there will be a public service at 3:oo p.m.

Gallegos daughter Ali says this a tremendous honor for her dad and his family.

“We are going to honor him, his wishes,” she said.  ”It’s going to be a time for his colleagues from around the state to come visit. We are very honored to go back there.”

Sen. Gallegos graduated from Milby High School and served in the Houston Fire Department for 22 years before going into politics.

His daughter says they are grateful people are remembering their dad’s dedication to public service.

“Just seeing and hearing how much he meant to those people, the people that he was around in the community and what he meant to them and what he did for them,” she said.

On Sunday, visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Houston’s Cullen Performance Hall with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at The Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in downtown Houston.
