Thousands of dead fish are washing ashore along the Texas coast from the Colorado River to Galveston Island and authorities believe that low oxygen levels off shore may be to blame.

Galveston Island and Parks and Wildlife biologists have been investigating the problem and believe that even though they have a good sense of why the fish are washing ashore, the problem is not an easy fix.

Scientists began testing ph, saline and oxygen levels in water samples taken along the coast and came to the conclusion that low oxygen in the water is a problem.

To report dead fish, call Texas Parks and Wildlife at 281-842-8100.
