An infant and a woman are dead and several more injured after an accident Sunday in northwest Harris County. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a Ford Expedition carrying seven people, was traveling west on Highway 290 near Badtke Road around 1:00 p.m.

Eyewitness accounts state that the SUV’s rear left tire lost its tread and the tire blew out. A six-month-old girl was ejected and died at the scene. That baby was riding unrestrained in a passenger’s lap. A woman in the front passenger seat was transported to the hospital by Life Flight; she was later pronounced dead.

Five other occupants were injured and taken to North Cypress Medical Center. A

According to police, the seating of the passengers in the SUV may have played a part in the accident. A wheelchair was in the back of the vehicle that reportedly prevented the family from placing the child in a car seat.
