Noted author ReShonda Tate Billingsley who hails from Houston, found her daughter posting alcohol-related photos to a social network after gaining access into the family’s liquor cabinet. As a mother she did not approve of the photos so she used a photo as well to get across a message that parents for generations have wanted to convey to children; she came up with a very original, and arguably effective form of punishment for her child.

Tate Billingsley’s punishment photograph went viral on Facebook as her friends shared it 11,000 on the first day. Billingsley said her daughter had a melt down on Day 1. By Day 2, other parents posted notes on Tate Billingsley’s Facebook page in support of the punishment.

Tate Billingsley says that her daughter will now educate others on proper and acceptable social networking and displays of personal endeavors and activities.

Tate Billingsley, who has penned 25 successful books, found that her daughter posted a photograph of herself with a liquor bottle and a note stating a desire to consume the alcohol. So Billingsley posted a photo herself that features her young daughter holding a hand-written sign that reads, “Since I want to post photos of me holding liquor I am obviously not ready for social media and will be taking a hiatus until I learn what I should + should not post. BYE-BYE.”

Tate Billingsley is not alone in her style of punishment. A mother from Ohio, used the same method to punish her 13-year-old daughter Ava after she found her posting “disrespectful things” on Facebook. A father punished his 8-year-old daughter by making her stand in the parking lot wearing the sign after she reportedly took things that did not belong to her.
