The fiancé of a woman who is accused of fatally shooting a woman and kidnapping her baby says he is in shock over the allegations.
According to investigators, Verna McClain, 30, shot and killed Kala Golden, 28, on April 17 outside of a pediatric center in The Woodlands. McClain then allegedly abducted Golden’s son Keegan Schuchardt. The baby was three days old.
Officials said McClain possibly had a miscarriage and that she may have taken the baby to try to fool her fiancé Kevin Carter.
Carter said he didn’t know anything about what McClain was allegedly planning to do.
“I was at work that day, but I just found out like the next morning when I put my little girl on the bus, that’s when I found out, when I looked at the news then,” he said.
