Most of my listeners know that I am a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi but, I also try to support other organizations events. Well the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha & Sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha are building a dream!
7th Annual Build A Dream M LK Memorial Golf Tournament
M issouri City, Texas – On Saturday, November 6, 2010, the chapters of Xi Kappa Lambda of
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Chi Omicron Omega of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
has collaborated to host the 7th Annual “Build A Dream M LK M emorial Golf Tournament” at
Quail Valley Golf Course – 2880 La Quinta Drive, M issouri City, Texas 77459
On September 28, 1996 the U.S. House of Representatives passed Joint Resolution 70
authorizing Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to establish a memorial in Washington, DC to honor
Dr. M artin Luther King, Jr. The Senate followed by passing Joint Resolution 426 on October 3,
1996, and on July 16, 1998, President Clinton signed a Joint Congressional Resolution
authorizing the building of a memorial.
Situated on a four-acre site along the Tidal Basin, the Washington, DC M artin Luther King, Jr.
National M emorial will be adjacent to the Franklin D. Roosevelt M emorial and on a direct line
between the Lincoln and Jefferson M emorials. The M emorial will evoke the memory and
spiritual presence of Dr. King. It will honor not only a great man, but the values that empowered
his leadership, including courage and truth, unconditional love and forgiveness, justice and
equality, reconciliation and peace.
Xi Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has embraced the dream and has
donated $43,000 of the proceeds raised from the M LK M emorial Golf Tournament. Xi Kappa
Lambda and Chi Omicron Omega Chapters recognize the importance of service to the
community. For the 2010 tournament, funds raised will be contributed to the M LK M emorial
Foundation and Scholarships for deserving students in the Greater Houston area.
