“American Idol” is experiencing something fans are calling “Crystalgate” as lead competitor Crystal Bowersox lets a friend know she feels “betrayed” by Ryan Seacrest. The “New York Post” reports Bowersox pal, former Top 24 “Idol” contestant Katelyn Epperly, recently shared with a Des Moines radio station that a text from her pal shows exactly how she feels. Bowersox reportedly sent Epperly a message over the weekend that reads, quote, “I’m fine…betrayed by Seacrest!” “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest reportedly caught up with Bowersox in the show’s parking lot two weeks ago, just as she was about to quit, and persuaded her to return to taping by telling her she’d make enough money on the show to buy her mom a house.
That’s not so, according to Epperly. She says, quote, “[Bowersox] had a moment backstage and they made it into something it wasn’t. She’s still in the game.” Bowersox made her own comment on Sunday via the “AI9” Facebook account. She writes, quote, “Media is a funny thing. Stretched and skewered and far from the truth. Let’s play telephone and see what we come up with!” Two days earlier she wrote on the website, quote, “We all have moments of doubt. As much as I miss my kid, the picture is this: I’m doing this for him and my fans. I’m having the time of my life!”
