LaToya Jackson is making no secret of where she would like to watch the next season of Fox’s “American Idol.”  The 53-year-old recently told TMZ.com that she wants to occupy Simon Cowell’s soon-to-be-empty seat.  She states, quote, “I would LOVE to be a judge on ‘American Idol.’  I would love to have the chance for the public to get to know the real me.  I would be thrilled.”  Sources tell TMZ that LaToya and “Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe discussed a possible appearance on the show during a recent housewarming party in Bel Air, California for Kathy Hilton.  There’s no word on whether LaToya will be appearing on “Idol” anytime soon.

Earlier this month, Simon Cowell announced that he will be leaving “American Idol” after this season.  He plans on spending his time developing an American version of Britain’s hit music competition “The X Factor.”  It was also reported that Cowell could be working on bringing former “Idol” judge Paula Abdul” with him to “The X Factor.”  The series is slated to premiere on Fox in the fall of 2011.  An all-new “American Idol” airs tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
