Summary:

Every success in life is based on the strength of your prayer life. Prayer is a necessary discipline in the life of every Believer because it authorizes God to get involved with our situations and circumstances. The most powerful thing any human being can do is pray.

  1. It is important you hear God’s voice in your day-to-day life (Hebrews 3:7).
    1. God is still speaking; can you hear Him?
      1. God said, If my people will humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven.
      2. Refuse to trust yourself more than you do God (Zechariah 4:6).
    2. Prayer is adding your agreement to what God has already done (Matthew 26:38).
      1. Prayer is also saying to God what He has already said in His Word.
        1. God gave mankind dominion and authority over the Earth.
        2. You have authority and absolute mastery over the enemy (Luke 10:19).
    3. When you do not pray, you fail to authorize Heaven’s involvement in your affairs.
      1. Prayer is the foundation for every successful endeavor in life.
      2. Jesus shed His blood for you to have success.
      3. What you display in public is a result of your private time with God.
      4. A life without prayer is a life of failure.
  2. Pray the will of God for your life, not your own will (Matthew 26:36-39).

    1. Jesus spent considerable time in prayer each day, praying for the success of His mission, which was the will of God for His life.
      1. Do not come to God as if He is your personal genie; seek His will for your life.
    2. Discipline yourself to pray for one hour every day.
      1. Do not be like the disciples, who could not stay awake for one hour to pray.
        1. Jesus is constantly interceding for you.
  3. Pray in the spirit.
    1. Praying in the spirit builds you up-soul, spirit, and body.
      1. When you pray in the spirit for an hour, you will have the peace of God and things will be well with you.
  4. Prayer must be taught (Luke 11:1-4).
    1. Many people believe they know how to pray; however, they need to know how to correctly pray according to God’s Word.
    2. You must develop a desire to pray.
    3. Transform your prayer life from discipline, to desire, to delight.
    4. Jesus cleansed the temple which made it a house of purity; then the temple became a house of prayer (Matthew 21:12-16).
      1. He drove out everything that was impure.
      2. You must be a “house of purity” before you can become truly powerful in your prayer life.
        1. Cleanse your soul of all impurity.
    5. What happens when it is no longer a chore to pray?
      1. You have moved from discipline to delight.
      2. This is the stage where you look forward to spending time with God.
      3. You become a house of power and miracles will take place.
      4. You will receive the desires of your heart.
  5. The Holy Spirit will birth in you the desire to pray (Romans 8:27).
    1. Overcome your flesh and allow the Spirit to lead you (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
    2. Depend on the Holy Spirit for the desire and discipline to pray.
    3. Power comes when you establish a daily relationship with God.
      1. Power is the ability to get results.
  6. The Lord’s Prayer is a model prayer (Matthew 6:6-13).
    1. Topic #1: Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
      1. Enter into praise.
    2. Topic #2: Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done.
      1. Set and maintain priorities for that day.
    3. Topic #3: Give us this day our daily bread.
      1. Pray for your provision.
    4. Topic #4: Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
      1. Set your will to forgive.
    5. Topic #5: Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
      1. Pray for protection.
    6. Topic #6: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
      1. Return to praise.
