(CNN) -- As we enter the final months of 2011, the thoughts of tech watchers like me are turning to what we can expect in 2012. Voice recognition in all our devices? Touch control replacing the mouse and keyboard? The death of the wallet as mobile payments become mainstream? Maybe. No, not the business. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that his social network had surpassed 750 million users in July (although there's no telling how many of those are pets), and the company is on track to collect more than $4 billion in sales this year, mostly from advertising.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has resigned and will be replaced by former Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook, the company said late Wednesday. Jobs will stay on as Apple's chairman.
