After playing a flawless first half and building a 21-0 lead against the San Francisco 49ers, the Texans let their imperfections show, and it almost cost them a second consecutive victory.

With two former presidents, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush serving as honorary captains for their Salute to the Military Day, the Texans managed to escape Reliant Stadium with a 24-21 victory.

The Texans ruined 49ers coach Mike Singletary’s homecoming and increased their record to 4-3 going into Sunday’s game at Buffalo. San Francisco dropped to 3-3.

“A win is a win, ugly or pretty,” cornerback Dunta Robinson said. “I’m glad we won, but I’m not happy about the way we played in the second half. I’m not trying to be a party pooper, but guys have to stay focused.”

The Texans built a 21-point lead in the first half by dominating the 49ers on both sides of the ball. The defense allowed 1 yard in the first quarter and 50 yards in the first half.

The Texans produced three touchdowns on offense. Steve Slaton ran for a 1-yard touchdown. Matt Schaub threw two touchdown passes – 9 yards to Slaton and 42 to Owen Daniels.  Read more.
