Penny Marshall, who died Monday at her Hollywood Hills home due to complications from diabetes,  blessed us with the 1996 movie “The Preacher’s Wife”

Marshall directed the uplifting movie that starred the late Whitney Houston, Courtney B. Vance, Lionel Richie, Loretta Devine, Gregory Hines, and Jenifer Lewis. *Cissy Houston makes a guest appearance*

In the film, Courtney B. Vance played a preacher who was in jeopardy of losing his marriage and his church. With the help of an Angel, he was able to save them both.

After learning of Marshall’s passing, Courtney B. Vance said he was tremendously blessed to have worked with her on the film.

“The experience of working with Penny on that film was anything but typical, and marked the beginning of a long, beautiful friendship filled with lots of memories, joy, and laughter,” he said in a statement to The LA Times. “You see, Penny was funny. I mean, absolutely hysterical! Laughter was always a big part of being in her world.

Thank you Penny Marshall for blessing us with some good films, especially one of my Christmas favorites… “The Preacher’s Wife”
