Recently Mary J. Blige discussed how her latest movie “Mudbound” influenced her perceptions of body image.

She plays a character named Florence in “Mudbound” and says the role came to her at a point in her life where she was dealing with insecurity and low self-esteem. This caused her to initially resist when director Dee Rees called for her to take off her makeup and other beauty items for the role. However, she eventually decided to trust the director and found that the experience allowed her to embrace her inner beauty.

She said, “I didn’t really realize that I was hanging onto so many things of the world that made me feel beautiful. I was fighting for fingernails, and fighting for wigs and things like that. And I just didn’t wanna strip down, because I just was afraid,” Blige said. “Once I trusted [Rees] and let Florence live, she really liberated me. She really opened me up to my own inner beauty for real. Not what I thought I’d learn, but really truly who I am. And that none of this matters, you know?”

So now I’m asking YOU to “Trust the Director” of your life – his name is Jesus – and know beyond a shadow of doubt that he made you exactly how you are and who you are.

You are created in the image of God, and God doesn’t make junk! God sees you as a masterpiece; and when you look in the mirror today, I urge you to see who He sees.

Psalm 139:14 (KJV) – I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
