Gospel singer and vocal healer Ashaala Shanae talks about her new song, “Big God.” She talks about using her Caribbean roots to sing about God in a whole new way, and going to Jamaica to work with Jamaican artists in every aspect to create the song. Ashaala also talks about coming from a family where addiction has been a major battle, and suffering from and surviving abuse. “The village raised me,” she explains, recalling the fact that she moved from home to home growing up. But music, she said, remained a constant safe haven in those times.

Ashaala also talks about being a vocal healer, and teaching people how to use their voices in order to help artists keep their gifts, and thus, their place in the industry. Click on the audio player to hear more in this exclusive interview on “Get Up! Mornings With Erica Campbell.”
