5 are dead and 8 are hospitalized after gunshots broke out at Fort Lauderdale airport on Friday, according to CNN.
Authorities say the lone suspect is in custody.
A witness to the tragedy, Gene Messina, described the incident saying “I got off the plane and I saw people running and screaming,” he said. “At first I was in shock but when I saw TSA agents running, I booked.”
Parts of the airport were evacuated, leaving large groups of people stranded on the tarmac.
Investigators have not determined the gunman’s motive, according to Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief.
