All Los Angeles Unified School District schools are closed today and all students at these school were sent home Tuesday morning.

This follows a specific threat at effects more than 1,000 schools that authorities are now investigating.  However while it is a possible treat, parents are being told if they have dropped their child off, to come back and pick them up and to bring an ID.

But now parents are trying to figure out how they will balance work and watching their kids.

Los Angeles Supt. Ramon Cortines said the closure affects 640,000 students and said, “I want every school searched and to make sure it is safe for children and staff to be there on Wednesday.  I am not taking a chance of bringing children into a place, into any part of a building, until I know that it’s safe,” Cortines said during an early morning news conference Tuesday morning. “I, as superintendent, am not going to take the chance with the life of a student.”

The superintendent says there were many schools that were being threaten which is why he made the decision to close the second largest school system in the country.

However reports are also saying the threat comes from an e-mail that was not only sent to a specific person on the L.A. school board, but that it was also sent to several other school systems, including New York city, where they dismissed the threat and considered it not valid and decided NOT to close down their school system

May we keep the students, family and the school body in our prayers.
