(LA MARQUE, TX) — A playground especially designed for seniors is now open in La Marque, and it is the first of its kind in Texas.
“It’s not traditional like you would see for children,” said Julie Diaz with the Galveston County Parks and Senior Services. “Everything is no more than three feet off the ground. There’s a ramp to get up. There are ropes. There’s a wavy balance beam and there’s a balance bridge. There’s a place where they can do assisted squats, chin ups, pull ups and some standing push up, as well.”
It’s also intended to help in other ways.
“It helps with their flexibility, their mobility and we’re trying to give them exercise or something to do outside that will help them with fall prevention and also give them a socialization aspect,” Diaz said.
The senior playground is at the Wayne Johnson Community Center in La Marque and is open during normal park hours.
