Doris Lewis (pictured) has a massive and painful benign abdominal growth that has now inched its way to her heart. Desperate, she tried seeking the services of four Atlanta-area hospitals but none would help because she lacked health insurance, according to WSB-TV.

The 59-year-old woman struggled to secure health insurance benefits after her husband passed away a few years ago. When Lewis’ abdomen began to protrude, she thought it was weight gain at first but then came to realize that medical assistance would be a necessity as the growth accelerated in size.

As Lewis’ appearance changed and she looked as if she were in the throes of a late-stage pregnancy, desperation set in. In a matter of two months, the growth had become the size of a beach ball and was pressing against her heart. “It’s getting bigger every day,” Lewis said. “I can feel it on my body. My heart hurts a little bit.”

Lewis sought the help of several doctors at four area hospitals but none would touch her without insurance. She was told that the tumor is wrapped around her ovaries, which is causing the discomfort, but there were no takers who would perform the surgery to remove the growth.

One day, Lewis was in such unbearable pain that she had to call 911. She was transported to Emory University Hospital in midtown Atlanta and it was there that she finally found a doctor who was sympathetic to her situation. “He said, ‘You will see a doctor without money,’” Lewis told WSB-TV.

Now, Lewis will finally be relieved of her heavy burden June 10th and she could not be more grateful for her impending surgical procedure. “It would feel great, now, if I could get it out today,” she said. “Right now. It would be a blessing.”

Lewis is asking for prayers so that her surgical procedure will go well and without a hitch.
