(HOUSTON) — A man named Michael Blair was killed at the hands of a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office deputy, and it was all caught on hidden camera. Blair’s family, along with community activist Quanell X, says the mentally ill man should have never been shot.

When the 26-year-old dlocked himself in the bathroom of his home last November, his family called 911, but someone also focused a camera on the bathroom door.

The Latest News Headlines, Traffic and Weather:

In the video, Blair wouldn’t come out of the bathroom when officers knocked.

Less than two minutes later, officers busted through the door and saw that he had a knife to his own throat.

After ignoring repeated demands to drop the knife, Blair was shocked with a Taser. The deputy continued to repeatedly shout for him to “drop the knife.”

Four minutes in, the deputy stopped yelling.

“Let it go,” the deputy said. “We’re trying to help you.”

But five minutes after the deputy first knocked, Blair got out of the bathtub — knife in hand — and moved toward the deputy.

Nine shots were fired. Blair was dead.

Blair’s mother, Kimberly Blair-Olaniyi, said her son was schizophrenic, suicidal and should not have been shot.

The deputy who shot Blair was not indicted by a grand jury, and an FBCSO investigation found that he did nothing wrong

Blair’s mother and Quanell X gave the video to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, asking for a federal investigation.

The sheriff’s office did not return our phone calls Wednesday.
