(LEAGUE CITY, TX) — Life Flight was called to League City after a mother and her child were attacked by a dog Monday morning.

It happened around 8:45 a.m. at an apartment in the 2800 block of East League City Parkway, a few miles west of Highway 146.

According to League City police, a mother and her 2-year-old daughter were in the apartment when the dog attacked the toddler. The little girl’s mother was injured while trying to protect her.

Responding officers ended the attack by fatally shooting the dog. Police said the dog was a pit bull and belonged to the mother’s boyfriend.

The toddler was transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital with severe injuries to her face and head. The mother was taken by ambulance with injuries to her hands and arms.
