A final push is underway to get uninsured Houstonians signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, before the March 31st enrollment deadline.

One major thrust is being carried forward by the Texas League of Young Voters.  Christina Sanders is state president of the group and she says, ”We’re making sure that everyone knows about the March 31st deadline to enroll, or have health insurance.”

If eligible people don’t enroll by that that date, they’ll have to wait until next year, and they’ll be incurring a tax penalty for every month of 2014 that they’re not enrolled.

Sanders says her young voters organization is particularly concerned with African Americans.  ”One of the largest populations of uninsured African Americans is right here in the City of Houston and so it’s really important for the city, but also for the African American community to go to Healthcare.gov to sign up.”

Members of Sanders’ group will be manning up to eighty high traffic locations around Houston where people can ask questions, and in a few of those places, get enrolled.
