Walmart Shoplifter Flees, Strikes Pregnant Woman

According to reports, a shoplifter struck a pregnant woman with his car before an off-duty deputy opened fire; that shoplifter was fleeing from a Walmart store.

At approximately 2:a.m. on Sunday, an off-duty Precinct 4 deputy identified two shoplifters at the Walmart on 290 at Tidwell.

The officer confronted the suspects about their shoplifting of items from the store and then one male suspect ran to his car and reportedly attempted to run over the officer. In doing so, he hit a pregnant woman who was standing nearby.

deputy pulled his weapon and fired several times at the vehicle before the suspect got away. Investigators do not believe he was shot.

The pregnant woman was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The deputy was not injured and no other injuries were reported. The other shoplifting suspect, a woman, was taken into custody.
