Booker T. Caldwell, who worked with his hands to create fine threads, used his business acumen to build a solid reputation and attracted requests for original outfits from some of the world’s best-known performers, died on Thursday from complications of renal and congestive heart conditions. He was 88.
Caldwell was a college-educated man whose handiwork, creativity and salesmanship earned him business from everyday Houstonians and celebrities. He stitched his way to prosperity at a venerable tailor shop in Houston’s Fifth Ward and later, Third Ward.
