Ryan Seacrest has a new music-themed show in the works, but he doesn’t appear to be making just another “American Idol.” According to the “New York Post,” NBC’s head of alternative programming says the new show will be made up of “self-contained episodes” and will be “artist competitive” rather than “contestant competitive.” It isn’t clear yet whether Seacrest will serve as host or if he’ll even leave “Idol,” but his contract with the Fox show is up after this year. The NBC show, however, is still in the early stages and could reportedly take up to two years to fully develop.

As for competing with the show that made his name, Seacrest told “The Hollywood Reporter” earlier this year that it, quote, “doesn’t make a lot of sense” to go up against “American Idol.” But he said he could see himself being the face of another show sometime in the future.
