Wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is getting a “go” to attend her astronaut husband’s space shuttle liftoff at week’s end. ABC News reports doctors at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston say Giffords has recovered sufficiently to travel to Florida to view the launch. Her husband Mark Kelly is commander of Space Shuttle Endeavour’s final mission. The orbiter is slated to lift off from the Kennedy Space Center on Friday at 3:47 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. President Obama and a VIP delegation from Congress are expected to attend, in a show of support for Giffords.

Giffords is still in rehab from a gunshot wound to the left side of her brain. She was critically injured in the Tucson shooting spree that left six dead and 13 wounded at a political event in January. Doctors in Houston tell the “Arizona Republic” she can stand on her own and pushes a shopping cart up and down hospital corridors to help improve her stride.
