Her prayers today likely ended with the prophetic quote of Jesus, “Into your hands I commend my spirit.”

Today Geraldine Ferraro lost her battle with blood cancer.  She was born August 26, 1935. Most of us know her as the second woman to run for the Executive Office. Many of us had her as our Senator. She was much loved in the state of New York.

Geraldine spent her later years after politics in service of  charities for many ethnic groups. Geraldine was a board member of the New York chapter of Easter Seals. Easter Seals is a nonprofit charitable organization that assists more than one million children and adults with autism and other disabilities and special needs annually through a network of more than 550 service sites in the United States, Canada, Australia and Puerto Rico. She desired to make sure that pension funds were fair and equitable for the struggling poor.

President Barack Obama praised Ferraro’s service and said she would have an impact on his daughters’ lives.

“Geraldine will forever be remembered as a trailblazer who broke down barriers for women and Americans of all backgrounds and walks of life,” he said in a statement. “… Sasha and Malia will grow up in a more equal America because of the life Geraldine Ferraro chose to live.”

Her life will live on in quotes that inspire us.

“And I have to tell you as a grandmother, I worry about the fact that my grandchildren are going to be paying for all the spending, including military spending, that has gone on and the tax cuts that have come through.”

“I do believe in the power of prayer.”

“I have been extremely lucky; I am a person who is currently living with a cancer that is under control.”

“If you think somebody cares about you and believes your life is worth saving, how can you give up?”

Rest In Peace
