Sanaa Lathan, who hasn’t been showing face on film too much lately, will star in the premiere of Lynn Nottage’s new play – “Meet Vera Stark” – as the headstrong, African American maid and dreaming actress.
Nottage, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her play “Ruined,” draws on the screwball films of the 1930s to take an irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood.
The show will open May 9 at the Second Stage Theatre.
Lathan has earned a Tony nomination for her role in “A Raisin in the Sun” and has starred in several stage plays most recently.
