The sangin’ Braxton clan – Tamar, Trina, Towanda, Traci, Toni and Mama Evelyn – were on hand in Pasadena this morning to sell television critics on their upcoming WE tv reality series, “Braxton Family Values.”
Based on the teaser clip shown, the sisters had no problem airing all of their personal business , from the inevitable tear-inducing sibling rivalries – to – bankruptcy with you-know-who.
Even Evelyn has a distinct storyline – dealing with the infidelity of her ex-husband and the challenge of having to avoid bad-mouthing the father of her children – at least while she’s in their presence. A significant portion of the series will follow newly-divorced Evelyn as she attempts to jump back into the dating scene.
“My mom is newly divorced after 35 years. So it’s a bit challenging, and you see that on the show,” said Toni. “We portray her trying to date and get a life. It’s very challenging for her because she and my dad had been together since she was 14 years old. So you see a woman coming full circle and trying to redefine herself.”
“Yeah. I’m doing pretty good with it,” Mom said. “They don’t think I’m doing a good job, but I’m doing pretty good with it.”
“Well, that’s because you hadn’t dated before,” said Towanda. “It was always you and Daddy. He was your first boyfriend. So, you know, we’re kind of trying to help her along the way to learn how to really date.
Asked how the girls were as kids and teens, Evelyn said “it was just like any other household. We had our ups and downs, and I don’t know if I should say this or not on the air, but there was certain times of the month where…everybody knows.
“That was very challenging, you know. So I didn’t have to ask. I knew. Attitudes, you know. But as a whole, it was pretty good. It wasn’t so bad. They help one another, and not only that, but they are each other’s best friends. So that helped me a lot because they would watch out for one another. So it wasn’t as difficult as one would think. And then, I was raised under the old school, and I passed it on to them. I’m still old school.”
WE tv’s “Braxton Family Values” premieres Tuesday, April 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
