With a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) sweep of Grambling State, Alabama A&M captured its third consecutive SWAC Volleyball title and ninth in ten years on Sunday evening.

Despite playing two grueling matches on Sunday morning, the Bulldogs showed no signs of fatigue as they got off to a fast start, tallying 14 kills in the first set. In the second set, the Bulldogs logged 16 kills while registering a .378 hitting percentage en route to a 2-0 edge over the Lady Tigers.

In the third and final set, it was more of the same as the Bulldogs outhit GSU 13-8 while solidifying a third straight championship. AAMU was led by senior and 2009 Tournament Most Valuable Player, Madinah Abdullah with 13 kills. Bulldogs’ head coach, Nedra Brown, was named the 2009 SWAC Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season.

The Lady Tigers were led by all-conference outside hitter Kayla Williams with 14 kills and 10 digs.
